When and how were you introduced to Kubernetes?

Curious to see how people came to learn about Kubernetes. A teacher, on the job, just always knew, something else? Curious minds…

Activating memory  I first learned about Kubernetes in the early 2010s while I was working on how Postgres could be run in a container-based environment.

In those days, there was still intense competition between Mesos, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.

I think k8s began to dominate when the major cloud vendors all adopted managed kubernetes services, reducing barrier to entry, driving the development of an ecosystem around it, and ultimately reducing the risk for teams to decide on adopting it as a solution.
